The ADuM1310¹ is a unidirectional, triple-channel digitalisolator based on Analog Devices, Inc. iCoupler® technology.Combining high speed CMOS and monolithic coreless transformer technology,this isolation component provides outstandingperformance characteristics superior to alternatives such asoptocoupler devices .

By avoiding the use of LEDs and photodiodes, iCouplerdevices remove the design difficulties commonly associatedwith optocouplers . The typical concerns that arise with optocouplers, such as uncertain current transfer ratios, nonlineartransfer functions, and temperature and lifetime effects,areeliminated with the simple iCoupler digital interfaces and stableperformance characteristics . The need for external drivers andother discretes is eliminated with these iCoupler products .Furthermore, iCoupler devices run at one-tenth to one-sixththe power consumption of optocouplers at comparable signaldata rates.

The ADuM1310 isolator provides three independent isolationchannels at data rates up to 10 Mbps . It operates with the supplyvoltage of either side ranging from 2.7 V to 5.5 V, providingcompatibility with lower voltage systems as well as enabling avoltage translation functionality across the isolation barrier.

This product also has a default output control pin . This allowsthe user to define the logic state the outputs are to adopt in theabsence of the input VDD1 power.Unlike other optocoupleralternatives,the ADuM1310 has a patented refresh feature thatensures dc correctness in the absence of input logic transitionsand during power-up/power-down conditions .
